Capability: I have broad in-house experience in the public and private sectors, in New Zealand and abroad. In my last role I was Head of Legal for epay Worldwide based in London where I ran a legal team in Europe and the US dealing with all legal aspects of a global business. I have extensive experience in general company/commercial law, commercial contracting, regulatory issues including finance, privacy, competition and consumer regulation, intellectual property and e-commerce. I also did plenty of work locally for the New Zealand epay business.
At epay I designed and implemented a global document storage tool, leveraging existing in-house resources, and using data tagging to drive reporting functions and generate and embed corporate memory. I also adapted an internal CRM system as a central portal for the business to instruct the legal team on contract requests providing major efficiency, security and audit benefits as well as legal education for the business. It does not require cutting-edge technology to make huge improvements to key aspects of legal, compliance and business functions.
Although I am particularly interested in using technology to transform legal and business function, in my view technology is not a silver bullet and there is no substitute for good processes and sound business knowledge. I like getting to know how businesses work, testing assumptions and being a facilitator of business growth without undue risk.
